National Population Census in April Next Year

A national population census is to be held in April 2006.

As part of preparations for the census, the Bureau of Statistics has begun a series of training workshops for chiefs, members of parliament, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), political leaders, heads of government departments and community councilors.

The workshops, which start in Quthing on November 18, will cover the role of community leaders in a population census, the importance of a population census, of economic growth as well as that of mobilisation of communities.

District Statistics Field Officer, Mr. Motlalepula Fako, said Quthing has an estimated population of about 140 000 people. The last population census was in 1996.
