NEPAD E-schools Project Introduces ICTs

The Prime Minister Mr. Pakalitha Mosisili is to launch a project aimed at introducing computer studies in the country’s schools, the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) e-schools demonstration project, at Lesotho High School on August 25.

The project will be initiated in six high schools earmarked for the NEPAD demonstration project, which is also being run in two other African countries, Ghana and Uganda. Schools are provided with computers and both teachers and students taught how to use them.

Chief Information Officer in the Ministry of Education and Training, Mrs. 'Makopano Semakale said the initiative is aimed at preparing Africa for the future by imparting information and communications technology (ICT) skills and knowledge to the young generation in both primary and high schools.

The initiative is also meant to enable young Basotho to function and participate in the emerging global and information society of the twenty first century, she said.

It is expected that the Minister of Education and Training Mr. Mohlabi Tsekoa; the Minister of Communications, Science and Technology Mr. Thomas Thabane; and the Executive Deputy Chairman of NEPAD e-Africa commission Dr. Henry Chasia will attend the launch.
