Makoanyane X1 Loses to Madagascar in COSAFA Final
Surprise team of the tournament, Madagascar are the 2005 COSAFA Under-20 champions after emerging winners in a tough fought final against Lesotho’s Makoanyane X1 at the King Zwelithini Stadium, Durban, South Africa, on Sunday December 11.

A 70th minute goal dashed Makoanyane X1’s hopes in a game in which they enjoyed the majority of possession, earning the islanders their first Vodacom Cosafa Under-20 title. Madagascar was never considered a worthy opponent until its first game, in which it beat Namibia 7 – 0, to eventually become Group C leaders.

Lesotho qualified for the final by beating South Africa’s Amajita 3 – 1 on December 10, with Madagascar beating Zambia 4-3 in the other semifinal game.

In the playoff for third and fourth places, Zambia saw off the Amajita challenge with a 2-0 win.
