Likuena to Play a German Select Side on January 9

Lesotho's senior national soccer team, Likuena, will test their strength against a German select side, at Setsoto Stadium on January 9.

Team Manager Thabo Pule said Likuena are focussing on team building after being eliminated from both the World Cup and African Cup of Nations qualifying games by Botswana in 2004. They are now focusing on the regional Council of Southern African Football Association (COSAFA) Castle Cup tournament to be played later this year.

A select team from one of the world's leading soccer giants will help them gauge their progress in  building a new team whilst at the same time preparing for the COSAFA tournament, Pule said.

He said the team will resume camp on January 5 at Bambatha Ts'ita Sports Arena with 16 players, four of whom are currently training with Makoanyane XI, preparing for the African Youth Championships beginning in Porto Novo in Benin from January 15 to 30.

Two new players, Sello Komane and Lengana Nkhethoa from the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) team and expected to boost the striking and midfield sections of the team, have been included in the team.

Meanwhile, coach Tony Hey arrived back in the country from his end of the year break in his native Germany on January 4 to resume his training sessions.

The German team is touring Southern Africa countries including Botswana, Namibia and South Africa.
