Libyan Foreign Minister Visits Lesotho

  Libyan Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr Abdulrahman Mohamed Shalgum will be in Lesotho on a one-day official visit on January 5, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This visit, follows an earlier one by the Prime Minister, Mr. Pakalitha Mosisili', in 2000,will involve discuss bilateral relations with the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Monyane Moleleki, according to the statement.

Following the Prime Minister's visit, the Libyan government sent investment promotion missions to Lesotho in 2000 and 2001 to promote economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. Relations between the two countries were further strengthened by the opening of a resident diplomatic mission by Lesotho in Tripoli in 2001, followed by the opening of a Libyan embassy in Maseru.

Since then Libya has donated 15 tractors to the government of Lesotho. Libya has also promised to help in the construction of a shopping complex in Maseru as well as technical assistance to the  Lesotho Defence Force.
