LTA to Independently Monitor Networks Interference

Lesotho will now be able to monitor interference between its and South Africa's telecommunications networks with the acquisition of a M1 690million mobile networks air interface test tool on July 5.

The Lesotho Telecommunications Authority (LTA) chief executive office, Mr. Monehela Posholi signed on behalf of the country and Protea Technology South Africa's Mr. Clinton Pierce signed on behalf of his company.

The agreement means the country is now able to conduct its own tests, monitoring frequencies between the two countries without it depending on the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) as has been the case since 2002

LTA's Technical Director, Mr George Masia, said the equipment to be supplied will assist in ensuring that there is no interference, especially with mobile networks.

The project is funded by the World Bank and it is expected that it will be completed in nine weeks including supply, commissioning and training of LTA staff.
