LRA, SARS Cooperation Growing
 

Lesotho and South African  revenue services are meeting in Maseru for five days beginning July 26 to discuss cooperation between the two institutions, according to the Lesotho Revenue Authority.

 LRA public relations officer Mr Manyathela Kheleli said issues such as tax administration, including the control of illegal imports, second-hand motor vehicles and; a proposal to kick start the one-stop-border-shop concept at the two countries' ports of entry will come up during the visit.

This joint initiative will cover training on tax specializations, human resource processes and systems and support functions such as project management and customer care. Regional training initiatives on specialisations such as investigation and intelligence will also be encouraged.

LRA Commissioner Kevin Donovan and SARS Commissioner Mr Pravin Gordhan will sign a memorandum of cooperation on capacity building, which will also cover attachments, exchanges of trainers to develop regional capacity and attendance at human resource conferences and seminars.

The meeting is a follow up to a similar one held at the SARS headquarters at the end of April, Mr. Manyathela said.
