LEFA Suspends German Coach Hey

National coach Tony Hey has been suspended indefinitely, the national soccer controlling body Lesotho Football Association (LEFA)  announced on August 18.

LEFA president Advocate Salemane Phafane announcing the suspension at a press
conference at the Bambatha Ts'ita Sports Arena, said Hey will be temporarily suspended pending his appearance before the Association's disciplinary committee. He faces charges that include misconduct, insubordination and will also have to answer questions about "the dismal performance of the senior national team in the Council of Southern Africa Football Association (COSAFA) Castle cup held in Lusaka, Zambia in June this year."

Hey will not be getting a salary until the matter has been resolved, Advocate Phafane said.

The German coach reportedly did not respond to correspondence after the Association queried his going away on several occasions in May and June without reporting to the management of either Likuena or LEFA.

Initially the coach gave as his reasons for being away, the fact that he did not have a place to stay, a fact which was rectified in March. LEFA spent huge sums of money to renovate a house for the coach to stay in, Phafane said.

Hey had instead managed the team by remote control, asking his assistant Motheo 'Six to Six' Mohapi, to arrange a camp in readiness for a friendly encounter against Botswana.

Assistant coach Mohapi said Hey had said he would be back by August 12 but had not as yet arrived.
