Karabo Lekhanya, Nkau Lepheana Honoured

Over 1300 graduates were conferred certificates and degrees by National University of Lesotho Chancellor, King Letsie III of October 1.

King Letsie III also conferred honorary degrees in literature to Mr. Karabo Lekhanya and Mr. Nkau Lepheana for their contribution in choral music by composing choral songs and conducting choral music choirs.

King Letsie III told graduants at the 30th Convocation of the NUL they had achieved an important milestone in their lives but that this was not the end of the road. They should always focus on contributing to the development of their communities and country and remain alert to any challenges that life may throw at them.

The Chancellor challenged them to ensure that whatever career path they pursued, they would be agents and catalysts fro positive change.

The university has grown tremendously since its establishment 60 years ago, based on the figures availed to him which showed that the students population is now over seven thousand. However, this implied that thousands more are pursuing their higher education in other countries, at considerable expense.

Acting Vice Chancellor Dr. Mafa Sejanamane noted a 32 percent increase in the number of graduating students in the past four years. This, he said, is attributable to the introduction of new programmes at the University.

The University, however, needs a total investment of around M54 Million for it to turn into a world class university in the next ten to 15 years and additional M5 million for rehabilitating the aging buildings, particularly the student halls of residence.
