Joint SADC Army Manoeuvres in Botswana
A contingent of Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) members are to take part in joint Southern African Development Community (SADC) manoeuvres in Botswana beginning on June 8.

The 133 members were given a send off by LDF Commander, Lieutenant General Thuso Motanyane who said as an affiliated member to various international organizations, Lesotho has a role to play in the maintenance of peace and stability in the continent. The country cannot turn a blind eye to international calls in the face of persistent humanitarian crises and suffering on the continent.

Lieutenant General Motanyane said for the first time in the history of the force, Lesotho is going to participate in an international peace and support mission, with five officers to be deployed in an African mission in Darfur, Sudan as military observers, effective from June 15.

This should act as  motivation to the delegation in the sense that their officers, as commanders, have paved a way for them to follow.  Lesotho's participation in operations of this nature will provide exposure and attract international recognition while also building Lesotho's image globally.

The Commander appealed to the delegation to always exercise the highest standards of discipline as they will be carrying the national flag.

The training will last for two weeks and is organized by Botswana in collaboration with France.
