| Intervarsity Games Uncertain | |
| The
intervarsity games remain uncertain due to unavailability of water supply at
the Roma campus of the National University of Lesotho (NUL) . They were to
start on February 28 and go on until March 04. Sports Officer Mr. Monaheng Monyane has raised doubts about the possibility of the games going on because of a severe shortage of water on campus as dams which are used as reservoirs are running empty. There was no way the games could be hosted at Roma campus under the prevailing circumstances, he said. Mr. Monyane told the Lesotho News Agency (LENA) however that the NUL Vice Chancellor Professor Mafa Sejanamane was busy trying to find a way out, that it would be clear before the end of the week if the games would continue or not. They had tried asking Botswana to host the games on their behalf but the latter said they were experiencing a similar problem, relying on a recycled water supply, which is even more expensive than bringing it onto campus by trucks as Roma was doing. Swaziland were not prepared to host the games at such short notice. Intervarsity games are held interchangeably between the three universities of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland to promote relations and cooperation amongst the institutions. Botswana hosted the games last year. 11 February 2005 |
