Former Highlands Water Project Official in Hot Water
A Lahmeyer International director, Raymond Stock, is to be charged with paying an M1 million bribe to a former head of the Lesotho Highlands Water Commission. Lahmeyer is one of the companies that took part in the construction of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project.

Court papers claim that Stock paid Mr. Reatile Mochebelele the money, during the period of 1996 -99, to secure contracts for the German-based company.

The former head, now working for the New Partnership for Africa's development (Nepad) secretariat in South Africa, is reported to have bought a mansion in South Africa in March last year, at a cost of almost M2 million.

Several international companies involved in the Highlands water Project are still facing charges of bribery and corruption in the country.

The date for Stock's trial is not yet known.
