HIV/AIDS-Workplace Bill in the Pipeline, Employment Minister Says
A Bill amending the Labour Code  so as to include provisions relating to HIV/AIDS and the workplace will be finalised and presented before parliament by June this year.

Acting Minister of Employment and Labour , Dr Rakoro Phororo, officially opening the annual general conference of the Association of Lesotho Employers (ALE), said the development of HIV/AIDS workplace policies under the new Bill are intended to provide enterprise -based interventions which will take into account the peculiarities of each business.

The Minister reminded the employers that the fight against HIV/AIDS is not solely the responsibility of the government. Employers also have corporate responsibility as well, to fully contribute in the national efforts.

The Minister conveyed government's displeasure with employers who close shop and disappear unceremoniously without having discharged their obligations to their employees. This causes
serious tensions and embarrassment to every one and has the potential to create unnecessary suspicions and prejudice against other investors.

Acknowledging the contribution that  members of the association have made in the creation of jobs , he Minister said government has also embarked on a campaign to promote investment in order to create employment for Basotho.
