Exel Sponsors Soccer Tournament in Mokhotlong

Exel, supplier of petrol and petroleum goods to government, will donate a library and computer centre worth M150 000 to Mapholaneng High School in Mokhotlong.

District Secretary for Mokhotlong Mr. Molefe Mpesi revealed this in an interview with the Lesotho News Agency (LENA) when officially announcing the start on January 6 of a three day soccer tournament, sponsored by Exel Petroleum Lesotho for the second year running, at Mokhotlong Pitso Ground.

Exel Petroleum Lesotho Managing Director Mr. Selai Mokete explained the donations by saying that Mokhotlong was the company's first base in the country although they planned to organise similar tournaments in other the other highland districts such as Thaba Tseka and Qacha's Nek.

The M40 000 tournament has drawn four teams from the Bobatsi, Malingoaneng, Senqu and Mokhotlong constituencies, which qualified during regional competitions held during the Christmas break.

Mr. Mpesi said the tournament is aimed at reviving the spirit of sportsmanship and promote football in the district. National coaches are expected to attend the games to identify Mokhotlong's talent and potential, he said.

Mokhotlong and Senqu are hot favourites following their good performance in the same tournament last year.

The Minister of Gender, Youth, Sports and Recreation, Mrs 'Mathabiso Lepono has been invited and is expected to officiate the prize giving ceremony on Saturday. Minister of Education and Training, Mr. Mohlabi Tsekoa will also be present as the tournament is his brainchild.
