The National Olympic Committee has appealed to Government and business leaders in Lesotho to contribute to sport and physical education week ( 5 to 9 December 2005) by allowing their staff to participate in the “Dress for Sport Day” on Friday 9th December. This year was declared International Year of Sport and Physical Education by the UN General Assembly in November 2003. Participants in the “Dress for Sport Day” should all wear sports gear to work on the day: replica jerseys, t-shirts, and training shoes and other forms of sportswear. They should also wear LNOC rosettes already being sold by Olympic Committee volunteers at M5.00 each. They can also should start the day with a brisk walk to work. For example, dropping off public transport some distance away from the office so that they get an opportunity to get physical by walking, while maintaining our normal hours of work. This initiative is however not mandatory, people are asked to volunteer to participate. According to the National Olympic Committee, the latest studies reveal that in Lesotho 42% of the young population is obese. Celebrating the international year of Sport and Physical Education must be a time for introspection and a chance to change our lives to promote healthy living, the Committee said. 07 December 2005 |
