Councillors Sworn into Office
 

Community councillors are being sworn into office this week following their selection during the local government elections of April 30 this year, The Lesotho News Agency (LENA) has reported. 

In Mohale’s Hoek, about 141 community councillors will take oath of office at swearing in ceremonies to be held at 14 community councils in the district on June 17.

District Administrator, Mr. Lebamang Tlali, said councillors for Qhobeng and Phamong where by-elections will be held on June 18 will be sworn in later, concurrently with the first meetings of the community councils in their respective councils.

The councillors will be expected to elect two representatives to the District Council, Mr. Tlali said.

The community councils established in the district are Siloe, Mashaleng, Motlejoeng, Khoelenyana, Teke, Mootsinyane, Phamong, Thaba Mokhele, Qobong, Qhobeng, Seroto, Likhutloaneng, Nkau and Qabane. 

In Berea, more than 120 community councillors in ten community councils will be sworn in, according to Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Lerato Mabina.

The ten community councils in Berea are Maluba-lube, Tebe-Tebe, Koeneng, Matanasela, Senekane, Mapoteng, 'Makeoane, Phuthiatsana, Kanana and Thuathe.

 After they are sworn in, the councillors elect chair and vice chairpersons and sub committees to deal with finance and planning, social services and land.
