Companies and institutions throughout the country commemorated the World AIDS Day on December 1, in different ways, including monetary assistance to orphanages; prayer and candle lighting and; campaigns to encourage people to take voluntary tests. Leribe manager of Metropolitan Lesotho, Mr. Bonang Sonopo said during the commemoration that the company deals on daily basis with reports of death that expose children to a life as orphans. The life insurance business knows the reality and the impact of HIV/AIDS, he said. The Lesotho Telecommunication Authority (LTA) presented groceries worth M10, 000 to a centre for the poor and disadvantaged children at Sekamaneng, on the outskirts of Maseru. LTA Chief Executive Director Mr. Monehela Posholi emphasised the need for society to assist orphans and vulnerable children. Lesotho Bank and Standard Bank staff held a rally in front of the Lesotho Bank Tower where people were encouraged to undertake HIV/AIDS tests so that they know their status. 01 December 2005 |
