| Chief Khoabane Encourages Communities to Support Metolong Project | |
| The
Principal Chief of Thaba-Bosiu, Chief Khoabane Theko has urged the community
of Ha Seeiso to fully support the construction of Metolong Dam as this was
going to benefit and change their lives.
Addressing the public at International Water Day celebrations on March 14, Chief Khoabane said the project would bring about the creation of schools, clinics, police post, postal services, roads as well electrical services to the area. He urged however that made sure that they knew their rights as a community. Chief Khoabane commended the Transformation Resource Centre (TRC) in its efforts in educating the community about the impact, both positive and negative, of big projects. TRC community worker, Mr. Mabusetsa Lenka said the purpose of marking the day at Metolong was to inform people about the impact and benefits of large developments such as the building of big dams. Representative of the Lesotho Lowlands Water Scheme, Mr. Maieane Khaketla made a promise to work hand in hand with the communities to be affected by the construction of the dam. 15 March 2005 |
