Mobile phone company Econet Ezi Cell Lesotho will
sponsor the premier, the Top Four as well as the first, second and third
division league tournaments for the next three years.
Econet Ezi Cell Lesotho and the Lesotho Football Association (LEFA) signed
the agreement on August 19. The tournaments will be sponsored by Buddie, a
brand of Econet Ezi Cell, for M500 000.
Econet Chief Executive Officer Mr. Elvis Gwanzura said they are committed
to making a contribution in developing football in the country, as the
biggest and most loved sport in the country. Besides being the biggest
sport, soccer also provides entertainment, employment and can be used to
create friendship among the different cultures, he said.
“Even though football is all about competition, at the
end of the match friendship remains, no matter who has won.”
LEFA CEO Mr. Kholoang Mokalanyane applauded Econet for renewing the
sponsorship contract. The company has shown commitment towards developing
soccer in the country and urged all the game’s lovers to support the company
to enable it to continue sponsoring it.
Mr. Mokalanyane emphasised the need for a disciplined premiership league,
saying no one would like to be involved with a disorganised organisation.
The new premiership season is expected to commence sometime in September.
