Commonwealth Gold medalist Thabiso Moqhali and the 2002 bronze medalist
Sephula Letuka will race the Queen's baton from Maseru to Mohale on June 29,
a short while after King Letsie III receives it on behalf of the nation as
patron of the Commonwealth Games.
The Minister of Gender and Youth, Sports and Recreation Mrs. 'Mathabiso
Lepono made this announcement in the National Assembly on June 15.
The Mohale Dam route has been chosen to allow a greater majority of
communities both in the lowlands and highlands an opportunity to see it, as
it signals the coming of Commonwealth Games which will be held in Melbourne,
Australia early next year.
Lesotho will be the 31 country to receive the Queen's baton relay since it
started off from Buckingham Palace on March 14. From the country, it will go
on to Trinidad and Tobago on June 30.
The Commonwealth Games were first played in Canada in 1930.
