AU Discusses Representation on New Security Council
  African Foreign Ministers meeting in Nigeria's capital, Abuja, have unanimously agreed to push for two permanent seats in the restructured UN Security Council.

Lesotho's Foreign Minister, Mr. Monyane Moleleki , according to www.sabcnews.com , said the debate over which countries should take up the two positions have been shelved for now. Nigeria, South Africa and Egypt have publicly expressed interest to serve in the new Security Council.

Mr. Moleleki said the ministers also debated the issue of veto powers. The African Foreign Ministers were meeting ahead of the African Union heads of state summit on January 31.
