Water sources should be covered, especially during rainy season

The rains that have just started may bring with them infection if water sources are not covered, the Mafeteng district sanitation coordinator, Mr. Moeketsi Mokotjo, has warned,

If water sources are not covered, there is a possibility of people getting infected as is always the case when the rains start after a protracted drought. Flood waters carrying in their wake waste material from poor sanitation could infect water sources, Mr. Mokotjo said.

Sanitation in the Mafeteng district is very poor as there were only about 5000 pit-latrines in the whole district,  used by a population of 30 000 people in the district. Each household needed its own latrine to improve sanitation and good health, he said.
