Some 14 more villages in the Mohale's Hoek district will have potable and clean water by the end of January with completion of a water supply project in the Qhalasi area of the district. Department of Rural Water Supply technical officer Mr. Mahlomola Letele said 12 of these projects are funded by Ireland Aid with government sponsoring the other two. The latest projects cost over M2 million to build, with the Qhalasi scheme costing M650 000, he said. More than 2, 400 people from Makhapetla in the district will be supplied with clean drinking water upon completion of a gravity water supply scheme to be completed at the end of the month. Started in November last year and expected to have been completed by the end of the year the project encountered difficulties as water sources dried up, Mr. Letele said. About 9, 000 people are already enjoying clean water following completion of the12 water supply systems last year. The completed projects are at Ha Lelinyane, Ha Nkau, Ha Sechele, Ha Qoane, Tlokotsing, Holy Cross, Mphole, Mpobong, Ha Potsane, Thota-Moli, Nkhetheleng and Meriting. 06 January 2004 |
