Tamil Question can only be Resolved through Negotiation - King

King Letsie II has commended the efforts made by the government of Sri Lanka in resolving the difficult Tamil question. Lesotho like Sri Lanka believes that it is only through negotiations that a lasting peace can be reached and upheld.

“We are also pleased to note that Sri Lanka’s hard work created a conducive environment for the signing of the ceasefire agreement with the Tamils in 2002, which laid the foundation for a negotiated settlement,” he said.

Receiving letters of credence of the new High Commissioner of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Mr. Tikiri Bandara Maduwegedera, in Maseru on April 6, the King said the flourishing relations between the two countries have made it easy for them to continue to collaborate and work together both at the bilateral and international levels for the attainment of global peace and the achievement of common goals.

In his turn, the High Commissioner-Designate acknowledged the growing cooperation between Lesotho and Sri Lanka, especially in area of trade and economy, citing as an example the granting of Sri Lankan citizens opportunity to conduct business in Lesotho.

Sri Lanka and Lesotho are both third world countries that work together to achieve economic development for the benefit of their peoples, he said.
