Transformation Resource Centre gets on-line

The Transformation Resource Centre (TRC) launched its official website,  www.trc.org.ls. , on May 31 as part of its 25th birthday anniversary.

The site, which features a mixture of news about the Centre, its activities and picturesque scenes from the different parts of the country, will add to the growing number of websites launched by companies and organisations in the country that are helping to market it globally, according to the Deputy Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology, Mr. Tsietsi Lebakae.

Officiating the launch, Mr. Lebakae said the Ministry of Communications did not believe it held the monopoly on information about the country and believed that other organisations could also help promote the country's accessibility worldwide.

The website would also promote a culture of learning and reading as it would provide a virtual library service, supplementing the physical book library the Centre already runs. The launch would however, mean the emergence of many more challenges as the thirst for knowledge made people demand more, Mr. Lebakae said.

On behalf of the company that helped put up the website, Comnet Internet Manager, Mr. Norman Faught, stressed the importance of website and internet use in today's world: "These days an organisation that does not have access is to all intents and purposes disabled. When you meet with people internationally, the first thing they ask for is your e-mail address."

The importance of the internet is the ability of this facility to help an organisation sell itself. Unfortunately due to costs, penetration in Lesotho is still very low, in fact, at this point in time it is less than one percent though companies such as Comnet are trying to help bring these costs down, Mr. Faught said.
