A theatrical project intended to highlight developmental issues and those that affect children’s happiness, success and safety, is still in the cooking pot. A sneak preview of the drama Wean Win, performed by Liatla Productions was showcased at the Machabeng International College Theatre Hall, last weekend. The writer of the drama, Mrs. Selloane Mokuku indicated that the drama is a kaleidoscope on facts about Lesotho’s social, political and economic situation. During the showcasing, discussions were held to engage the audience on Lesotho’s role in enabling young people to participate on issues that affect their well-being hence the name ‘Wean Win’. Mrs. Mokuku added that the idea is to inspire a sense of responsibility among the community with regard to how to wean a child and get positive results as the child is now independent of the mother’s protection. The show’s director, Mr. Kalosi Ramakhula pointed out that this project is intended to decode international and national conventions such that they are fully palatable to both parents and children in our societies.
Wean Win cast at the drama sneak preview The show opens with three people who meet at the ‘National Vision 2020’ conference. While waiting for the conference to start, a discussion on a variety of issues relating to history, poverty, HIV and AIDS ensues. All the three believe that the issues derive from the weaning process, the willingness to learn, unlearn and re-learn dynamics of development, which have a potential to present a winning nation.Although the sneak preview lasted for only 15 minutes, the full length show which is approximately one hour shall be much more informative and theatrically polished. The creative team comprises two special musicians: one is a Chef while the other is visually impaired. There are also two writers and a choreographer. 29 June 2004 |
