Princess Senate Launches Non-Governmental Organization Coalition (NGOC) on the Rights of the Child
Three year old Princess Senate Mohato Seeiso symbolically launched the Non-Governmental Organization Coalition (NGOC) on the Rights of the Child at the Lesotho Sun on December 9.

NGOC chairperson Mrs Selloane Mokuku announced at the ceremony that the Coalition intends to take up the work that has been done by Save the Children UK (SCUK) which has closed its Lesotho office.

Princess Senate Mohato Seeiso has been made patron of the Coalition because she too is still a child and will have an interest in the protection and respect for the rights of all children, Mrs Mokuku said.

'Our vision is that all children, in spite of their differences and diverse conditions, need to live in an accommodative and responsive environment that enables them to develop holistically, in keeping with their human rights and responsibilities as agreed and enshrined in various national, global fora and  instruments,' she said.

The NGOC was established as a result of some enthusiastic people on the welfare of children realizing that the welfare of many children was at risk and they needed help when parents, particularly those in leadership positions were tearing each other apart in deeds and words thus exposing children to things they should never have seen or known.

She expressed gratitude for the support they had received from the SCUK; Save the Children Sweden; UNICEF; Commonwealth Education Fund as well as the American Institute for Research, without which support there would be no NGOC.

The SCUK presented the NGOC with a cheque for M55 000 and a vehicle to be used in their line programmes.
