Red Cross starts electing new branch executive committees

 

The Quthing divisional branch of the Lesotho Red Cross Society (LRCS) is to elect a new executive committee at an annual general meeting to be held at the Quthing headquarters of the Society on January 31st, coordinator for Quthing, Mr.Mookameli Mohlokonya, announced on December 5.

The AGM would also review achievements and problems encountered in the last year, give members of the a
chance to draw plans for the year, formulate plans to recruit new members, discuss the importance of voluntary service to the community as well as the means to establish developmental projects aimed  at fighting hunger, he said.

The meeting would also discuss the viability  of establishing branches in different areas of the district, showing how branches at village level would make it easier to coordinate and monitor the Society's activities.

Activities of LRCS include disaster preparedness, HIV/AIDS education, first-aid training and, water and soil
conservation activities, Mr. Mohlokonya said, adding that the LRCS would this year focus on community
developmental activities to fight hunger as they are aware that food donations will not always be available.
