Reconciliation worthy if aimed at national development - LPC

The reconciliation of all the parties that broke away from the Basotho Congress Party (BCP) over the years is a matter that needs much more serious consideration before it can be discussed in a radio programme, the Lesotho People's Congress, another of the splinter groupings, has said.

Mr. Pashu Mochesane, speaking during a media briefing by the LPC, said even though the matter has not yet been discussed within his party, the issue of reconciliation is very delicate and sensitive, and needs to be approached with care. He felt its discussion on Radio Lesotho on January 20 was premature.

Speaking in his capacity as LPC spokesperson, he said however that if reconciliation was being considered as part of national development,  to address issues of poverty, economy and unemployment, his party would consider it.

His comments came after a radio programme, Seboping, on January 20 where representatives of political parties that split from the BCP were invited to present their views on whether reconciliation of the parties was possible.

The radio programme followed the establishment of a committee, mandated with bringing together all the parties to negotiation a reconciliation.
