The Office of the Ombudsman Celebrates its 10th Anniversary

The Office of the Ombudsman will celebrate its 10 anniversary with a two-day retreat in Mohale’s Hoek followed by a pitso in the village of Mataoeng, a few kilometres out of the town. The Office was established in October 1993, some five months after the return to democratic rule in Lesotho but was unable to celebrate the occasion last year due to financial and other constraints.

The Office was established after several years of military rule were followed by democratic elections on April 14, 1993. In October the same year, Mr. Mohale Henry Nts’aba was appointed as the first Ombudsman of Lesotho, serving two four-year terms, succeeded by the current officeholder, Mr. Sekara Sam Mafisa in October 2002.

The public gathering at Mataoeng will be followed by tree planting to mark the anniversary.
