The statement said this year no alcohol was sold at the festival as they had realized that people could always enjoy the festival without having to get drunk, thus losing their self-respect. It further said the police had also contributed a lot to the good order as it maintained a number of low-profile patrols not only within the main venues but also throughout the back streets of Morija, resulting in fewer incidents reported. It indicated that this year they have achieved their purpose of uniting the people around culture, and with the support from the government, the private sector and the public, the festival reached the point of being a sustainable showcase of their heritage that lives up to the expectations of the nation. The committee also applauded the support they received from both the local and foreign media. 07 October 2004 |
