The new Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD) Member of Parliament for Motimposo Constituency No. 30, Mr. Ramatla ‘Makong was sworn in by the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr. Sephiri Motanyane, on May 6 and was briefed on the laws and regulations governing the House and how he should conduct himself. This followed by-elections in the Constituency on April 24 this year, in which the ruling LCD continued its dominance of party politics in the country, beating the other six contesting parties. The other contesting parties were the Basotholand Congress Party (BCP), Marematlou Freedom Party (MFP), New Lesotho Freedom Party (NLFP), Lesotho Workers Party (LWP), Popular Front for Democracy (PFD), National Independence Party (NIP). There was also one independent candidate. A few other parties did not contest, did not take part in the by-election. Mr. Motanyane reminded the new MP to be loyal to the Party and electorate from Motimposo who elected him to represent them. He was received with applause by fellow members of the LCD in the House. Mr. ‘Makong's election follows the death of the incumbent, the late Mr. Ts’eliso Mohloki, who died in a car accident in South Africa last year together with his wife. 07 May 2004 |
