Makoanyane XI called in a solo player, Matlama youngster Lawrence Molengoane, to reinforce its squad prior to a crucial encounter against their South African counterparts at Setsoto stadium on August 1. The clash between the Southern African neighbours will be the second time the two meet in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) African Youth championship. In an interview, team manager Ts’iu Monne said Molengoane was expected to join the team when it resumed camp on July 27 at the Bambatha Ts’ita sports arena. Molengoane is expected to beef up the striking force of the Under 20 national squad as Makoanyane XI would be going all out to be the first local side to kick a South African team out of the continental tournament. “Our boys are all ready to meet South Africa and are determined to beat their opponents this time around after losing the first encounter by a slight 2-1 margin away in Nelspruit two weeks ago,” Monne said. Though head coach Seepheephe “Mochine” Matete would be not sitting on the bench, as he would have arrived a few days before the match after attending CAF instructors course in Ghana, assistant coach Lehlohonolo Thotanyana would be in charge of the team assisted by Lethola “DND” Masimong. The South Africans were expected to arrive in the country on July 28 to prepare for the much-awaited clash. The winner will meet which ever team comes out best from the Zimbabwe/ Tanzania encounter playing on the same weekend. 28 July 2004 |
