Maine, 'Mota in IAAF World Half Marathon

Two top local athletes Tsotang Maine and 'Matrinta 'Mota will hoist the national flag high at the International Amateur Athletics Association (IAAF) 21.1 kilometre World Half marathon to be staged in New Delhi, India, on Saturday, October 2.  Lesotho Amateur Athletics Association (LAAA) public relations officer (PRO),  Moholi Tsoinyane will be head of delegation.

In an interview, LAAA secretary general Kokolia Mokonyana said Maine and 'Mota qualified for the half marathon after doing well in the national 21.1km half marathon sponsored by the Ministry of Gender, Youth, Sports and Recreation to the tune of M10 000 earlier this month.

Maine had been second after Mabothile Lebopo in the men's category,
while 'Mota claimed first spot in the women's section. Some misunderstanding with Lebopo had forced his replacement, Mokonyana said.

The association, meanwhile, holds its conference at Thaba Tseka on October 3  where members are expected to select a new executive committee. Presidential, secretariat and treasurer's reports would also be presented at the conference, as would be a review of the history and present development of the sport.

The LAAA's executive committee is selected every four years with district presidents, secretaries and treasurers from the nine districts affiliated with the
association are eligible to cast their votes. Only Mafeteng is not affiliated to the Association.
