Local Project Wins International Sustainable Eco-Tourism Prize
  The Quthing Wild Life Development Trust has been declared international winner of the best eco-tourism projects for 2003 by the Tourism Summit, an international partnership for sustainable eco-tourism development, at a ceremony held at Chamonix-Mont-Blanc in France on December 3.

Projects presented at the sustainable eco-tourism development competition included the promotion of animals and plants species; the promotion of the sustainable use of natural resources; construction of feeding areas for vultures and; hiking and riding that also offered opportunities for the discovery of fauna and flora.

In an interview, Mr Teboho Mokau of the QWDT, said the prizes included a certificate, an opportunity to advertise areas in the district of Quthing with tourism potential through the Tourism Summit, and M21 000 in cash.
 
 The QWDT was established in 2000 to protect biological diversity and support the sustainable use of the environment. It has some 1 300 members from the different villages of the district, including Mphaki, Mount Moorosi, Moyeni, Pokane, Qomo-Qomong, Masitise and Tsatsane. It has also established a tourist information centre in Quthing.
