The President and the Chief Executive Officer of the Lesotho Football Association (LEFA) will attend the official opening of the African Cup of Nations in Tunisia President Thabo Makakole and CEO Kholoang Mokalanyane leave for Tunisia on January 19 where they will attend both the official opening and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) annual conference at which a new president is expected to be elected. Two candidates are running for the CAF presidency including long serving Cameroonian Mr. Issa Hayatou and Botswana's Mr. Ishmael Bhamjee. Chief Executive Officer Mokalanyane said Lesotho would support the candidacy of Bhamjee since he is from the southern African region and would be more disposed to favouring regional problems in soccer. The conference is expected to discuss financial and progress reports as well as the way forward in developing the sport. The national association like the rest of the continent faces financial problems though Lesotho is not in a crisis as its debt in local hotels does not exceed M30 000. This is unlike so me two years ago when they owed close to M500 000. The Bambatha Sports Arena has minimized the problem since national teams camp at the place thus reducing accommodation expenses, he said. Mokalanyane said he sympathised with the Botswana Football Association (BFA) which is threatening to pull out of the World Cup and African Cup of Nations (ACN) qualifying games if their government does not intervene. Lesotho could have been in the same position too had they qualified for the competition. "Playing six matches against countries which need long distance travel is costly and I understand the BFA position," he said. The
