Huge Interest in Utilities Company

Ten companies have expressed interest in buying a majority shareholding in the soon to be privatised utility, the Lesotho Electricity Corporation (LEC), the Privatisation Unit announced at the end of the deadline for expression of interest, on May 24.

The Privatisation Unit said the next towards eventually determining the successful company will be an examination of the expressions of interest,  "on the basis of the advertised criteria", by the Sales Advisory Group, the body advising government on the restructuring of former parastatal corporations.

A short-list will then be made of those companies which will be pre-qualified to bid for the 20 year concession to operate the utility, a statement from the Unit said.
