The Lesotho Red Cross Society (LRCS) Mafeteng branch is following up on progress made by recently trained care-givers in taking care of HIV/AIDS and other patients in villages in the district. Branch AIDS educator, Mr. Pule Mothibi said the follow up on the Society's home based care programme aims at establishing a network incorporating the LRCS, support groups and care-givers so that the former are able to find out the number of patients in the villages within the programme. "The network will also enable support groups and care-givers to share ideas on the care of patients with different illnesses," he said. The Branch, through its HIV education programme, will ensure that care-givers are provided the necessary information on proper care and support of patients. Care-givers are family members and it has been realised that the number of patients can be drastically reduced if care-givers support and treat patients with love, Mr. Mothibi said. The
follow up programme, to be completed at the end of January, will be carried
out in villages in the Thabana Morena area and in Mafeteng town, where the
LRCS introduced its home based care programme. |
