A Botha Bothe hospital ambulance was waylaid on its way from the Lesotho Bank and at least M100, 000 taken away forcibly by an armed gang on January 14. The Officer Commanding the Botha-Bothe police, Senior Superintendent 'Mamotlatsi Petlane, told LENA that the money was intended for the old and infirm in the district. She said the ambulance was approaching the hospital gates when a car stopped in front of the ambulance, forcing it to stop and armed men sprang out of the stationary car, opened the ambulance doors and took away the money. The thieves then fled away in the car, which was later found abandoned at Ts'ehlanyane some 40 kilometres south east of Botha Bothe, Superintendent Petlane said. The armed group is still at large and police are continuing with investigations. 14 January 2004 |
