First Woman Commissioner of Police Appointed |

Evelyn Letooane has been appointed the country's first woman Commissioner of
Police. Mr Ts'okolo Koro, acting in the position until the announcement,
will now be Inspector of Police. The new appointments take effect on January
1, 2005, the Office of the Prime Minister has announced.
Mrs. Letooane joined the Lesotho Mounted Police Service in 1977, rising through the ranks until this new appointment. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Law from the National University of Lesotho and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Natal - Pietermaritzburg. The position of Inspector of Police is a new position in the Police Service with Mr. Koro its first incumbent. His appointment follows the establishment of the Police Inspectorate as part of the current initiatives to improve the public image and performance of the police service in terms of organisation, administration and discipline, the statement from the Prime Minister's Office said. Mr. Koro joined the Lesotho Mounted Police in July 1979. He is also a graduate of the National University of Lesotho, holding a Bachelor of Education degree and a Master of Arts Degree in Police and Criminal Justice Studies from the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom. 31 December 2004 |
