Education Minister Meets With Heads of Churches |
|
A delegation of the country's Heads of Churches met with the recently appointed Minister of Education and Training, Mr. Mohlabi Tsekoa, on December 9. A large percentage of the country's schools are church owned. The delegation was made up of Archbishop Bernard Mohlalisi of the Roman Catholic Church; Reverend Rapelang Mokhahlane of the Lesotho Evangelical Church and; Reverend Daniel Rantle of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Mr. Tsekoa highlighted some of the key challenges facing the education sector, such as a review of the Education Act to conform with the National Constitution in making primary education free, compulsory and protective of children's rights; the quest for the education sector to perform well in the provision of quality education to Basotho and; the challenge to make education accessible to all at all levels. Expressing gratitude for the courtesy call by the Heads of Churches, Mr. Tsekoa under-took to invite the Heads of Churches for discussion on these and other issues in the development of education in Lesotho early in the new year. He was looking forward to warm and fruitful cooperation with them in the national quest of providing education for all. he said.
