Deputy Speaker Announces the Death of Rev. J.M.Diaho

 

The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr. Sephiri Motanyane has announced the death of the Chaplain of the House, Reverend John Monaheng Diaho who died on Tuesday May 11, 2004. 

The Reverend Diaho, born in 1918 at White Hill in Qacha’s Nek, served the Lesotho Evangelical Church (LEC) for 47 years before retiring in 2003, he continued however, as chaplain of the House.

Members of the National Assembly paid tribute to the late Rev. Diaho, including chairman of the House and Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Lesao Lehohla and  Members of Parliament Mr. Ranthomeng Matete of the Basotho National Party (BNP) and Mr. Anthony Clovis Manyeli of the National Independence Party (NIP).

The Deputy Prime Minister the veteran minister has been the light in people’s lives in the country and had also served the world by doing his part in World War II.

Passing condolences to the family and the entire nation, Mr. Matete said he believed the National Assembly to have been blessed to be led by a person of such a calibre, a humble person who showed love and respect for people regardless of their status.

Rev. Diaho had joined the church at the time when it was faced with challenges that included independence from the mother church in Europe. He had also managed to establish rapport and cooperation with other churches, both locally and internationally while ensuring that in the process the LEC did not change its doctrine, Mr. Matete said.

The Rev. Diaho is survived by his wife, six children, 17 grandchildren and one great-grand child.
