Date of Koro-Koro By-election Announced

The Koro-Koro constituency by-elections will be held on February 12, 2005, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has announced. The by-election follows the death of the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Mr Mofelehetsi Moerane on 28 September 2004.

District Electoral Officer for Maseru, Ms Mamotena Maputsoe announced this in an interview with the Lesotho News Agency (LENA), showing how preparations for the by-elections had already been initiated, with a training workshop for support staff, helping with voters lists, to be held at the St Joseph's church in Koro-Koro beginning December 8, 2004.

The workshop aims at preparing support staff to be able to handle people trying to find out whether they are properly registered as well as on how to deal with mishaps during registration.

Voters lists will be up for inspection at the Constituency's registration sites between December 13 and 20, Ms Maputsoe said.

She also announced the holding of a series of training workshops for voter educators in preparation for the country's first local government elections, to be held before the end of the financial year. The first of these workshops, for voter educators from the Maseru and Thaba Tseka districts, is to be held at the Molengoane Lodge from December 16 to 20.

Similar workshops will follow in the other regions of the country until all the ten districts have been
covered. These will be followed by another series of workshops for registration officers and polling officers, she said.
