| Cyprus' First High Commissioner to Lesotho Meets with King Letsie III | |
| The
First High Commissioner of Cyprus to Lesotho, Mr. Costa Leontiou presented
his letters of credence to King Letsie III at the Royal Palace in Maseru on
November 18.
Although Mr Leontiou is the first High Commissioner of Cyprus to Lesotho, cordial relations and cooperation between the two countries have existed for several decades, the King said, noting that this remarkable and friendly cooperation, has among other reasons impelled the two countries to establish formal diplomatic relations. King Letsie III said it was his fervent hope that the new High Commissioner would join hands with Basotho in exploring possible areas of bilateral cooperation that can contribute to the social well-being of both nations. Lesotho support for Cyprus during the trying times of enduring disputes over the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus since 1974, was not only a matter of principle but also an indication Lesotho's readiness to respect the territorial integrity of states enshrined in relevant provisions of international law and pertinent resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly and other legal instruments. The King congratulated Cyprus for having acceded to the Europe Union in May 2004, adding that the EU is a major cooperating partner of Southern African Development Community as well as Lesotho. In his turn, High Commissioner Leontiou said since July, Cyprus has been struggling with consistency to prove that its fate does not lie in division and partition. They have made great strides in pursuing a peaceful solution and an honourable compromise, he said. 19 November 2004 |
