Commissioner Worried About Involvement of Police Officers in Crime

Acting Commissioner of the Police , Mr. Ts'okolo Koro has lamented the seeming involvement of police officers in criminal activities, which became more evident during the recent SADC operation against stolen vehicles.

Speaking to the media at Police Headquarters in Maseru on June 15, the Acting Commissioner of Police
said the phenomenon was worrying not only because it affected the image police, but also because it hinders progress in crime prevention campaigns.

The suspicion of collusion between some members of the police force and the vehicle thieves was reinforced by the fact that on the day of the operation, the targeted vehicles, mainly the illegal commuter transport, had mysteriously disappeared from the roads, leading authorities to conclude that some police officers had informed their partners in crime about the impending campaign.

The Lesotho Mounted Police service (LMPS) is committed to rooting out all corruption and would deal with the errant members harshly, Acting Commissioner Koro said, appealing to the media to help bring all those involved to book. A similar operation would be launched soon, he promised.
