Commission to Draw up Boundaries for Local Govt Elections Appointed

 

The Minister of Local Government, Dr. Ponts'o Sekatle has appointed a six member constituency delimitation commission to draw up boundaries in preparation for the forthcoming local government elections, it has been announced.

The Commission is made up of Justice Kelello Guni, of the Lesotho High Court, as chairperson, with Chief Hareeng Ts’epo; messrs Lets’ela Phamotse and M. Tlaba; Mrs. ‘Molaoa and Dr Makatjane making up the rest of the team. They are to work in close consultation with Independent Electoral Commission (IEC)  representative Mr. M. Mokhochane.

Given 10 weeks to carry out its delimitation task, the Commission has already compiled a list of all the villages in the country's 80 constituencies as part of efforts to ensure that villages are not separated from their administrative centres.

On completing its mandate, the Commission will hand over its report to the political party representatives who will in turn forward it to the National Assembly for ratification into an Act of Parliament governing the local government elections.
