A fierce legal battle between the Maseru City Council and a local businessman over the illegal building of an apartment block at Lower Thetsane in Maseru has forced the Council to issue a stern warning against unauthorised developments According to a press statement from the MCC, Maseru businessman Mr. Sally Moosa had been repeatedly warned Mr. Moosa to discontinue construction of the flats as they did not comply with the requirements of law and were contrary to the provisions of Maseru Development Plan. Mr. Moosa had however continued with the construction, forcing the MCC to resort to court action and a finding in favour of the MCC that that the building was illegal and should be demolished with immediate effect. This
landmark case demonstrates that there is rule of law in Lesotho and that all
law abiding citizens should at all times consult with the appropriate
authorities on issues of development, the statement said. |
