Berea, Maseru to Benefit from Japanese Assistance |

Lesotho and Japan have signed a grant in aid agreement through which the latter will fund the building of 17 new schools and water supply projects in the districts of Maseru, and Berea worth US$10 million (about M62.7 million). The Japanese Ambassador to Lesotho Mr. Toshinori Shigeie signed on behalf of his country whilst the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mohlabi Tsekoa signed on behalf of Lesotho. Speaking during the signing ceremony in Maseru on June 25, Mr. Shigeie said the signing shows Japan's commitment to assisting Lesotho's developmental projects, particularly construction of primary schools. He said the grant would be used to build 229 classrooms in 17 newly built schools as well as to introduce water supply facilities in the districts of Berea and Maseru. Japan has
prioritized to support Lesotho in areas of education and health. "It is

factors in promoting sustainable economic and social The Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Mohlabi Tsekoa thanked Japan for supporting Lesotho not only in education sector but also in other areas such as health, sports and agriculture.
