The Department of Education in Berea has launched a campaign to encourage both primary school teachers and pupils to be prepared for the schools' re-opening. In an interview, the Senior Education Officer, Mrs. Maureen Nyathe said this follows the realisation by the Department that most teachers and pupils do not go to school during the first week of the re-opening of schools, and how this affects education standards. Every hour is important in pupils' education and some parents are not aware of this, not taking action when children and teachers do not go to school. It is the responsibility of the Department of Education to ensure that all teachers and children do go to school every day of the school calendar. Not going to school by both pupils and teachers has a negative impact at the end of year, Mrs. Nyathe said.
Education officers and resource teachers will visit 117 primary schools in
five centres including Corn Exchange, Mapoteng, Teya-Teyaneng, Sefikeng and
Berea from January 28 to 30, she said. |
