WALES MEDICAL TEAM TO UNDERTAKE SERVICES IN LESOTHO

A team of 14 Medical practitioners manned by voluntary doctors and nurses from Wales will visit Lesotho starting from September 30.

In an interview, the Director of the Lesotho Wales Link, Mrs. Lineo Phachaka told LENA that the purpose of the visit of this medical team in Lesotho is to undertake training of trainers and their Village Health Workers in essential primary health care skills. "These Medical Practitioners have expertise in dental health care, psychiatric, general and respiratory nursing, and while in Lesotho they will perform voluntary services in some Clinics and hospitals, which will be identified by the Ministry of Health And Social Welfare." she explained. She further indicated that the team would also attend the 5th Morija Arts and Cultural Festival, scheduled to take place in October 2003 with the idea of learning the rich culture of Basotho people.

Mrs. Lineo pointed out that this visit of the Wales Medical team has been organised by the office of the Lesotho Wales Link in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. "One of the major reasons for inviting these medical practitioners is because in Lesotho we have a shortage of medical practitioners." She clarified. The team would be expected to leave Lesotho for Wales in early November.
